Creation of new regions: Commission begins hearing in Volta Region

The Commission of Inquiry into the proposed creation of new regions is currently holding public hearings in selected locations in the Volta Region. 

It is to enable the Commission to solicit the opinions of people in the regions earmarked for the creation of new districts and compile it into a report. 

The Chairman of the Commission, Justice Stephen Brobbey, noted that the issue is of significant national importance and urged people in affected regions to express their views freely in the best interest of the country. 

The public hearing took off in Ho and is expected to end at Jasikan over the weekend. In Ho, there were divergent views on whether additional regions should be created or not.  

At Dambai and Kete Krachi in the Krachi East and West Districts, there was an overwhelming support for the carving of a new region out of the Volta Region.

Some of those who expressed their views lamented that their communities have been neglected and the creation of a new region will bring the needed development.

The Chairman of the Commission, Justice Stephen Brobbey, said the public hearings are a fact finding mission to determine whether there is massive endorsement for the creation of a new region out of the existing Volta Region. 

He cautioned the public to refrain from making inflammatory statements that will create tensions.
