3-day conference and training on Mathematics launched

A three-day International Mathematical Conference has been launched in Accra.

The international mathematical conference and workshop organized by the Centre Of Excellence In Mathematics (CEMATHS) was aimed at addressing the incidence of bad mathematics performance in the nation and some sister nations like Nigeria which needs an urgent call to look at the mathematics problem “math phobia” in Ghana. 

Speaking at the launch of the conference, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo strongly encouraged CEMATHS and other such organisations to continue this vision of alleviating mathematics problem. 

President Akufo-Addo stated this in a speech read on his behalf by the Minister of Education, Hon. Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh.

For his part, Prof. Leonard Boehm, an Associate Director of the Math Corp and also a co-founder of Math Corps program, gave an overview and brief history of the Math Corp of Wayne State University and how the Math Corp program help alleviate the “math phobia” problem for participating students in the Detroit community.

CEMATHS was formed to address this problem using teaching strategies developed by the Math Corps program at Wayne State University.

The conference at the La Palm Royal beach hotel brought together over 200 delegates from all regions of Ghana, 50 delegates from Nigeria and 11 delegates from the United States.

Gracing the whole event was a privileged invite from the life patron, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin to attend a durbar on the 13th of January in honor of CEMATHS in Kibi. 

Prof. Ofori Dankwa, Board Chair of CEMATHS expressed his profound gratitude for the support and visionary impetus of the Okyenhene.
