Police begin investigations into possible grenade attacks in Ghana

The Inspector General of Police, David Asante-Apeatu, says the substance retrieved from the three suspects arrested by the Odorkor police are believed to be grenades even though it will still require laboratory test for confirmation. 

He said investigations are ongoing to establish whether the suspects have any links with terrorist groups, how they obtain the objects and their potential allies. 

The IGP was addressing a news Conference in Accra. 

Meanwhile, Security Analyst, Adib Saani says the arrest of three suspects with grenades by the Police is a worrying sign. He said Ghana has become a transit point for the export of these weapons and the security apparatus must up their game to flush the traffickers out. 

Speaking to GBC’s Felix Cofie, Mr. Saani said the porous nature of the country's borders must be checked. 

Mr Saani called on the security agencies to manage the anxiety of Ghanaians following the interception of the grenades and work towards making Ghanaians have confidence in the security institutions.
