EOCO Invades EC With Armed Men To Evict Deputy EC Chairperson

Armed Police Officers and Officials of the Economic and Organised Crimes Office, (EOCO), led by the Director, ACP K.K. Amoah, moved into the office of Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Xommission, Georgina Opoku Amankwa, on Monday asking her to leave her office. 

According to EOCO, Mad. Opoku Amankwa is under investigation and should not be in office. 

This was after Georgina Opoku Amankwa  reported to work after being on leave for seven months.

There was a stand - off at the office as she locked herself in with the officers outside.
She insisted on remaining at work till close of day.

The presence of her lawyers led to a meeting at one of the offices with the officers for some hours.

In an interview,  she stated that her decision to remain adamant was premised on the fact that the case under investigation was at the Supreme Court thus the EOCO has no right to stop her from going to her office.

When asked if she would be at work the following day with her offices locked, she retorted, "if I come and find the doors locked, I will break into the office'.

Three senior commissioners of the Electoral Commission, including the Chairperson, Mrs. Charlotte Osei, are under investigation over some workers money allegedly misappropriated.

Meanwhile, latest reports indicate that Madam Georgina Opoku Amankwa has given EOCO fourteen days to complete investigations to enable her resume work.

She warned that failure to do so would result in return to work.

She had been on leave for the past seven months awaiting the outcome of investigations.
