KMA partners KNUST to restore Kumasi to Garden City status

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has entered into partnership with the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in the execution of the Assembly’s initiative to restore Kumasi to its former status as the Garden City of West Africa, in the shortest possible time. 

To this end, the KMA has presented a cheque of nearly GH¢67,000 to KNUST for the University to prepare and manage the median of the road between Asafo Interchange and Oduom Roundabout on the Kumasi-Konongo highway to beautify that stretch of the road which is one of the principal roads in the city. 

At a brief presentation ceremony in Kumasi, the Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, Osei Assibey Antwi, explained that the amount followed a proposal by KNUST detailing the actual work and cost involved in enhancing the aesthetic value of the median in line with the initiative christened ‘Keep the City Clean and Green’ which is yet to be officially launched to make the metropolis beautiful once again. 

For his part, the Vice Chancellor of KNUST, Professor Kwasi Obiri-Danso, said the University is ready to support the KMA to achieve its goal of restoring Kumasi to its past glory and therefore called for increased partnership in the execution of the Assembly’s mandate.

The Consultant of the Oduom-Asafo Interchange Median Beautification Project, Professor Ben Banful of the Department of Horticulture of KNUST shed light on the project.
