Cash for seat probe: Ablakwa says it’s clear case of extortion

The Member of Parliament for North Tongu and Ranking Member on the Committee of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, says the actions of officials at the Ministry of Trade and industry, was a case of corruption as they used public office for private gain.

He told the five-member Adhoc Committee of Parliament probing the cash for seat saga that throughout his years as a deputy minister in the immediate past government, event organisers seeking government's endorsement of an event are just granted their request without paying any money. 

Thus the ministry setting up an office to collect cheques from the expatriates for the event was a clear case of extortion meant to know which company was paying big to deserve big government contracts.
