Proposal of January 7 as new date for Republic Day rejected Speaker of Parliament Professor Mike Ocquaye says Republic Day should be changed to January 7. According to him, 1st July 1960, which marks one of the republics of the past, is ‘dead and abandoned’, hence the need for the change. Speaking to the issue, Governance Expert, Prof. Emmanuel Asiamah said the Speaker has got it wrong. He said this distortion in history will not augur well for future generations. Prof. Asiamah said Republic Day cannot be changed because that is when Ghana weaned itself from colonial rule. Speaking to GBC’s Radio Ghana, Prof. Asiamah asked the Speaker to explain his position again. GBCONLINE ---DECRYPTED---
