Fire alert issued as Cape Town temperatures soar

A prediction of high temperatures for Cape Town today has led the South African Weather Service to issue a weather alert, advising that the conditions favour the spread of wild fires.
 
Mayoral Committee Member for Safety, Security and Social Services, J.P. Smith said the predicted temperatures are likely to cause residents of Cape Town to make their way to the beach. 

He asked the public to be cautious around open flames and other potentially flammable material.
