Fort St. Jago not in ruins despite low patronage Fort St. Jago in Elmina is not in ruins as reported in the media recently although the 353 year old fort is not being patronized the way it should. It was reported that Elmina Castle built by the Portuguese in 1482 as São Jorge da Mina in the Central Region, is in ruins as a result of lack of maintenance. However, a visit to the fort by GBC's Central regional correspondent Kingsley Nana Boadu on Wednesday, is rather of the view that, some of the big rooms within the fort need to be converted into restaurants, small conference rooms and even libraries for the place to come Alive and generate revenue for the country.
