Honour your tax obligations – Builsa North DCE

The Buisa North District Chief Executive, David Amoabil Afoko, has called on residents in the area to honor their tax obligations to enable the assembly raise enough revenue to carry out developmental projects. 

Speaking to Radio Ghana’s Samuel Ayammah in Sandema, Mr. Amoabil Afoko explained that taxes allowed government to carry out social services such as building of schools, hospitals, road infrastructure and extension of electricity to rural communities among others. 

He noted the assembly has embarked on sensitization programmes on radio and market centres on the need for the people in the area to honor their tax obligations. 

He said the assembly is putting measures in place to register all the stores, properties and other businesses in the area to enable the tax collectors access their owners and ensure they pay their tax on time.  

The DCE indicated that he will pursue his assignment on the basis of utmost faith, hard work, dedication and determination to bring the needed development to the district. 

According to Mr. Amoabil Afoko, working around these tenets to engage the people in the area will provide leads to assess the needs of the people, and draw a preferential scale in tackling the development aspirations and expectations in the district. 

The District Chief Executive said he will tackle the revenue generation base of the District by revitalizing all revenue teams to improve on revenue collection. 

Mr. Amoabil Afoko indicated that while the revenue base of the district was being worked on, it will concurrently be done with special attention to government’s policies and plans, considering the President’s quest to pursue an industrialization drive in the country. 

He said the “Planting for Food and Jobs Programme, the One District, one factory, the one million dollar seed capital for each district as well as one village one dam policies will come to augment his initiative to facilitate local industries, boost internal trade, improve on economic activities in the district as well as create jobs. 

The DCE indicated that in addition to the aforementioned, he will ensure that the Assembly created and provided enabling environment for local businesses to thrive. 

The DCE noted that plans were far advanced to eliminate all the schools under trees in the area. He said the assembly is doing its best to provide all the schools in the area with teaching and learning materials to lift the standard of education in the district. 

Mr. Amoabil Afoko said the assembly has built reasonable number of CHPs Compounds and construction of some of the CHPs are ongoing. He said the move is aimed at bringing healthcare delivery to the doorsteps of the people. 

The DCE said farming has become a lucrative business venture under the Akufo-Addo’s led administration, hence the need in the area to embrace the governments agricultural revolutionary programme dubbed “Planting for Food and Jobs”. 

Mr. Amoabil seized the opportunity to appeal to government to as a matter of urgency fix the Chuchiliga-Sandema road to ease the movement of goods and services. 

He said the assembly is also putting in place pragmatic measures to fix the roads linking the district’s market centres that were washed away by torrential rains in July, 2015.
