Veep Dr. Bawumia donates towards GMM college of Education

Ghana's Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has donated an amount of GHC 10,000 to the Ghana Muslim Mission (GMM) towards the construction of its college of Education in Koforidua, in the Eastern Region.
     
Vice President Dr. Bawumia said it was his contribution of sewing a seed to kick start the project, which is expected to benefit members of the organisation as well as the entire Islamic fraternity.
     
Speaking after the Friday Jummah prayers at the Ghana Muslim Mission headquarters in Accra, Dr Bawumia said the project would be made available to all Muslims.
     
He said the GMM has done a lot in terms of education, by establishing educational facilities across the country to instill into the children the Islamic teachings and practice.
     
“We are here to support you in this endeavour, and we assure you that upon completion of the college, we are going to facilitate all the processes and ensure that you are granted accreditation to be able to start it.”
     
He pledged government continues support towards the mission to enable it to achieve its aim of providing educational facilities across the country.
     
The National Chairman of GMM, Dr. Shikh Ameen Bonsu, expressed appreciation to the Vice President for his support towards the establishment of the college, which he believes, would go a long way to benefit the entire Muslim community.
     
He said it is the aim of the mission to complement government’s efforts in establishing educational facilities from the nursery level to the tertiary level.
     
He said “most of the schools in the country are mainly centered on only circular education, and that is why as an organisation we have decided to establish schools that would also focus on the religious and holistic development of students.”
     
Dr. Bonsu noted that as a result, the mission has been able to establish 117 schools, including basic schools and colleges of education, adding that, a nursing training college has also been completed and would begin academic work next year.
     
He urged all heads of Islamic institutions to continue observing the principle of freedom of worship in the schools, and not to compel anyone to practice what they do not believe in and urged Muslims in general to desist from all forms of immorality and indiscipline.
     
Dr. Bonsu commended the government for facilitating a successful Hajj operations last year and the successful implementation of the free Senior High School initiative, and urged Muslims to take advantage of it.
     
The Mayor of Accra, Mohammed Adjei Sowah, presented an amount of GHC10,000.00 to the National Chairman of the GMM.
