Egyptian Star Mohammed Salah wins Africa player of the Year

Egyptian football Star Mohammed Salah, has been named the CAF Best Player for 2017. 

Salah clinched the coveled accolade ahead of 2015 winner Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Gabon and Senegalese Liverpool team mate Sadio Mane to cap the most successful period of his career. 

The 25-year old has now won the two biggest personal accolades for African footballers in a spate of a month after claiming the BBC Player of the Year. Salah enjoyed a stellar year for both club and country. 

In early 2017, the forward was the central figure for Egypt as they finished runners-up at the Africa Cup of Nations.  He also had a hand in all seven of the goals that took the Pharaohs to their first World Cup since 1990  assisting two and scoring five, including the stoppage-time penalty against Congo that saw them qualify for Russia. 

In all, Salah netted 39 goals in 60 official games for both clubs and country in 2017.

At the awards ceremony in Accra yesterday, Salah joked that he would love to win the best player accolade for twenty more times and dedicated the award to children in Egypt
