"We should stop our rebellion and discharge our obligations to GBC" – Paul Adom-Otchere 

A renowned Broadcast Journalist, Paul Adom-Otchere has called on Ghanaians to stop the rebellion on social media against TV license collection by the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) and rather channel that energy against incompetent and corrupt Politicians. 

“I find out that there is a rebellion on social media that is against the State Institution and I think we should channel our energies of rebellion towards politicians who are incompetent or corrupt. We must rather discharge our obligations to the State institution” 

The Good Evening Ghana host spoke to GBCONLINE on his take on the collection of TV license fee on Thursday at the forecourt of GBC when he came to fulfill his civic obligation by paying his TV license fee. 

According to Paul it is necessary for any modern society to have a Public Service Broadcaster that must be sufficiently financed....Unlike the private Media Broadcaster whose main interests are on commercials, GBC’s main focus is on Public Service and has developmental agenda even if they might not be popular." 

Mr. Adom-Otchere also spoke about how GBC has created very fond memories in the minds of some Ghanaians when growing up. 

“If you think GBC has not done anything at all, in the past GBC has broadcast a lot of programs that have become fond memories in our growing up”. 

Adding that GBC cannot be left to run down into the drain and moreover TV has become modern and the state Broadcaster needs to buy new equipment for its activities. 

He posited that the money collected from TV license should be solely for the State Broadcaster. 

“I don’t think some of the money from TV license should be given to the Private Broadcasters. But rather we should focus our obligations to Paying TV license and stop being rebellious.”
