Residents of Kumasi want better trading centres before decongestion

Residents of Kumasi have expressed confidence in the government of President Akufo-Addo to deliver on his campaign promises to improve the socio-economic conditions of Ghanaians. 

In a survey by our Correspondents Nicholas Osei-Wusu and Francis Abedi, the people noted that the first year of the President’s term has not been easy particularly considering their present economic circumstances but said the situation is usual with any new government. 

They commended government particularly for the implementation of the free SHS programme. They are also of the view that government has shown enough will and commitment through its first two budgets to better the lot of Ghanaians. 

Some however raised concerns with the manner the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, KMA, has treated traders and hawkers in decongesting the Central business district without providing suitable alternative markets for them to continue with their business. 

They are therefore appealing to government to create better trading centers to relocate the affected traders before any further decongestion. 

On his part, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah, noted that, despite the initial challenges, government has performed fairly well during the 12 months it has been in power.
