President Akufo-Addo Appends Special Prosecutor Bill


President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo exactly 9:50 this morning, appended his signature to the Special Prosecutor bill which was passed by parliament November last year.  

The setting up of the office of the Special Prosecutor, The Coastal Development Authority, Northern Development Authority, Middle Belt Development Authority were some of the key campaign promises made by Nana Akufo-Addo during the 2012 elections.  

The office which will be independent of the Executive, is expected  to adequately deal with corruption-related issues which have plagued past governments. 

The office of the Special Prosecutor will have the mandate to investigate and prosecute cases of alleged corruption under the Public Procurement Act 203 Act 63 and other corruption-related offenses implicating public officers, political office holders and their accomplices in the public sector. 

The Prosecutor will also be mandated to trace and recover the proceeds of corruption. 

President Akufo Addo was said the office will hold past and present government officials accountable. He said it is an important step in government determination to root out corruption.


On the Development Authorities President Akufo Addo it will be the vehicle for the management of the one million dollar per constituency fund.

One the Zongo Development Fund, President Akufo Addo noted that it will bring development to the Zongos

Now that the these bills have been signed into laws, the stage is set for the President to appoint People to manage it. Of interest to many Ghanaians as to who will become the first Special Prosecutor.
