Christian group raise issues with Ghana's position in favour of UN`s Resolution rejecting Jerusalem as capital of Israel

A group calling itself the Concerned Christian Association of Ghana has disagreed with government's position to vote in favour of the United Nations Resolution rejecting Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

At a News Conference in Accra, a spokesperson of the group Dr. Samuel Ofoni Onwona said Ghana's decision on the matter is a gross error of judgement, unfortunate and refusal to learn from history. 

The brouhuaha began when the US President Donald Trump on 6th December 2017 formally recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, reversing nearly seven decades of American Foreign Policy and setting in motion a plan to move the United States Embassy from Tel Aviv to the fiercely contested Holy City. 

This prompted the UN to hold an emergency General Asembly meeting on the matter.  

The non-binding resolution was approved on Thursday 22nd December 2017 with 128 votes in favour and nine against, while 35 countries abstained. 

Ghana was among the nations that voted in favour of the Resolution rejecting President Donald Trump's position. 

The Concerned Christian Association of Ghana said the government of Ghana failed to consider the majority interest of Ghanaians in this matter, saying even though Ghana is a secular state, Christians form the larger group.

Government should have therefore sought the consent of the people before voting in favour of the motion. They therefore called on the government to reverse its position to avoid incurring the wrath of God on the nation.

The Association also called on Ghanaians to pray for the country and seek God's forgiveness. 

They said they do not intend to take any other action if government refuses to heed their call.
