Christians, in Koforidua in the Eastern region, were clad in white wears last night, congregated in various churches to keep vigil to usher in the New Year, 2018. 

They all prayed fervently asking for God’s guidance and protection in the year and also sang and danced joyously after the proclamation of the year 2018 by their pastors. 

Among the churches visited were Wesley Cathedral, St. George Catholic Cathedral, AME Zion, Christ Apostolic Church, Christian Divine Church, Salvation International Gospel Church and the Eye of God Prayer Ministry. 

In his New Year message, the Koforidua Catholic Diocesan Bishop, Most Rev. Joseph Afrifa Agyekum asked them to appreciate what God did for them for the whole of last year despite the tribulations and affirm their faith in him. 

He exhorted them to use the New Year to renew themselves spiritually and do away with practices which are not in conformity with the Christian ethics. 

Most Rev. Afrifa noted that if Christ which they follow is light then they the believers should also give true reflection of the light by leading exemplary life worthy of emulation. 

At the AME Zion church, the District Pastor Rev. Maxwell Aboagye Boadi, advised the congregation to put their trust in God. 

He noted that the devil always works to frustrate Christians, they should not be perturbed and act in good faith in order to conquer the devil. 

At the Effiduase Calvary Methodist church, the Circuit Superintendent Minister, Very Rev. Joseph Galley, asked Christians to learn how to sacrifice and focus on God. 

He noted that Ghana will only change when its citizens change their negative attitude towards its growth. 

He bemoaned the proliferation of churches in recent times and urged the Methodist faithful to be wary and live in holiness. 

At the Eye of God Prayer Ministry, the founder, Felix Donkor, said even though 2018 is full of blessings it is only those who persevere in prayer will reap the blessings. 

The story was not different at Effiduase Christ Apostolic church as the Head Pastor, Rev. Mathew K.T Sackey urged the congregants to search for Christ and abide by his principles to gain salvation. 

The year 2018, he noted, is full of blessings and advised them to be prayerful to obtain their portion.
