Meghan Markle’s half-sister hits back over Harry’s comments about family
Meghan Markle’s half-sister has reacted strongly to claims by Prince Harry his relatives are the family his fiancee “never had”.
Prince Harry unwittingly upset Meghan Markle’s relatives after he called the royals “the family she never had” during a radio interview.
He told listeners that The Firm loved having Meghan at their traditional bash — the first time a fiancée has been invited.
But when asked by presenter Sarah Montague whether there were any family traditions which needed to be explained to the American, the 33-year-old Prince said: “Oh plenty. I think we’ve got one of the biggest families that I know of, and every family is complex as well.
“No look, she’s done an absolutely amazing job. She’s getting in there and it’s the family I suppose that she’s never had.”
Meghan’s mum and dad Doria and Thomas divorced when she was six and she once revealed to pals she was “not on the best of terms” with her reclusive father.
But Harry’s comments were leapt upon by Meghan’s sister Samantha Grant last night.
Samantha, 52 - who suffers from multiple sclerosis - wrote on Twitter: “Actually she has a large family who were always there with her and for her.
“Our household was very normal and when dad and Doria divorced, we all made it so it was like she had two houses.
The actress’ mother is Doria Ragland, an African-American, who met her father Thomas Markle on the set of the US soap General Hospital, where he worked as a lighting director when she was a temp in the studio.
They divorced when Ms Markle was six. Although she lived with her mother in Los Angeles, Ms Markle also spent a great deal of time with her father.
Ms. Markle has two half-siblings – Samantha Markle and Thomas Markle Junior – from her father’s first marriage to Rosyln Markle.
