AU warns of security threat by returning African ISIS fighters

AU's Commissioner for Peace and Security, Smail Chergui has warned that the return of more than six thousand Africans who fought for the Islamic State (IS) militant group in Iraq and Syria could threaten the Continent's security. 

African nations therefore need to coordinate intelligence activities to counter the threat.
 
Mr.Chergui was speaking at a meeting in Algiers.

There are reports of six thousand African fighters among the thirty thousand foreign elements who joined this terrorist group in the Middle East.
