Tamale Sports Stadium Now Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium
The Tamale Sports Stadium has been renamed the Alhaji Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in honour of the Late Former Vice President.
Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia unveiled the plaque at a ceremony to honour the late Vice President.
He described the late former Vice President as a proud son of the north, who distinguished himself in various endeavours especially sports.
The Vice president also stated that the renaming of the Tamale Sports Stadium after the former Vice President fulfills a campaign promise made by the New Patriotic Party, (NPP) in 2016.
The son of the late former Vice President, farouk Mahama thanked government especially the president for the honour done his father, saying the family will forever be grateful.
A cross section of the public who spoke to GBC 24 described the late former Vice President as a disciplinarian who should be emulated by all and sundry
The Alhaji Aliu Mahama sports stadium was inaugurated on the January 19, 2008, by former President John Agyekum Kuffuor.
It is a twenty one seated sports stadium and the third biggest arena in the country aside the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi and Ohene Gyan Stadium in Accra.
