Road users in Western Region schooled on safety regulations 

The Western Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), of the Ghana Police Service in collaboration with the GPRTU and other partners have organised a sensitization seminar for road users on the need to observe road safety regulations.  

The sensitization seminar was also held for drivers of the Tarkwa station and other long journey drivers.  

Head of the Regional MTTD Sekondi Superintendent, Richard Appiah, who was the facilitator of the training, highlighted the need for drivers to be wary of some human errors that tend to increase crashes on the road.  

These are dangerous driving, wrongful overtaking, over speeding, disregarding zebra crossing, leaving vehicles in dangerous positions and driving under the influence of alcohol. 

Other issues discussed were the renewal of documents of drivers licence, roadworthy certificate and insurance as well as carrying of safety devices in motor vehicles such as advance warning triangle, fire extinguisher and spare tyres.  

Regional Manager of DVLA, Emmanuel Narh, stressed on the need for drivers to comply with road traffic regulations and the need to obtain the requisite driver's licence. 

A road safety advocate, Nana Anor Amehere, also called on government to ensure the general maintenance of roads to reduce motor accidents.
