GRIDCo staff threaten to besiege ECG premises 

The Ghana Grid Company Limited, (GRIDCo), is threatening to besiege the premises of the Electricity Company of Ghana, ECG, in demand for payment of debts. 

Chief Executive Officer of GRIDCO, Jonathan Amoako-Baah said the company would soon dispatch its staff to sleep on the premises of ECG until the monies are paid. 

Two major customers of GRIDCO, namely ECG and the Volta Aluminium Company, VALCO, owe the Company more than  540 million cedis and more than 30 million cedis. 

Mr. Amoako Baah said the company will hold constant interactions with the Chief Executives of the two organizations to drum home the need to finance GRIDCO's projects. 

He gave the warning on the sidelines of the Company’s 8th Annual General Meeting in Accra. 

He said in view of the debts GRIDCO could not carry out a lot of activities this year. 

He however ruled out cutting supply of electric power to ECG or going to court with the matter, saying, GRIDCO will not take legal action against ECG because it is equally a government-owned company. 

Mr. Amoako-Baah suggested to Management of ECG to use proceeds from the Energy Bond to defray the debts.
