WEAH POWERS USA TO QUARTER FINAL AS GERMANY EASES INTO THE LAST EIGHT IN FIFA U-17 WC


The junior male U-17 national team of the United States of America, the Baby Yanks on Monday beat Paraguay 5-0 in the ongoing Round of 16 of the FIFA U-17 World Cup India 2017 in New Delhi.

A hat-trick by Tim Weah and a goal each from Andrew Carleton and Captain Josh Sargent catapulted the high flying team into the quarter finals to set up a date with either England or Japan on Saturday in Goa.

Paraguay created lots of chances in the early minutes of the game threatening the goal area of the Americans but failed to hit target leaving Weah with no option than to use his skills to break down the resolute defence of Paraguay to score on the 19th minute. Weah doubled the scoring with a great goal, one that can arguably pass for the goal of tournament. 

Paraguay had no antidote to the trouble unleashed on them by the powerful four of Tim Weah, Ayo Akinola , Andrew Carleton and Captain Josh Sargen and thus yielded to a heavy score line.

In the other game, the Die Mannschaft of Germany also white washed Colombia 4-0 in New Delhi to book their place in the quarter finals of the competition.

Coach Wueck Christian had an easy task as his matured players played with little effort and constant breaks on the counter to make goal scoring interesting to watch as Yann Bisseck and John Yeboah exhibited great skill and talent on the field of play.

The compact Germans sealed their passage to the last eight with another two after the restart. Yeboah converted an Arp pass in the Colombia box on 49 minutes before the captain scored his second of the match to secure a four-goal victory. Germany will wait to meet Brazil or Honduras in Kolkata on Sunday


Today's, (Tuesday) matches will see Spain taking on France, Mexico will play Iran, Mali will battle Iraq and finally England will take on Japan.
