Ghana, Benin To Work Jointly To Accelerate Adoption Of Common Currency For ECOWAS 

Ghana and Benin have pledged to lead the process that will make ECOWAS a true Rregional market. The two countries also reiterated their commitment to accelerate the adoption of a common currency for the Sub-Region. 

President Akufo-Addo said this at a meeting with Beninon's President Patrice Talon who paid a day's state visit to Ghana. 

He called for the establishment of a direct flight from Accra to Cotonu to facilitate the movement of persons and goods. 

In the immediate post-independence era up to the early nineties, bilateral relations between Ghana and Benin focused on political and cultural matters. 

The socio-economic cooperation between the two countries has been conducted mainly within the framework of their Permanent Joint Commission for Cooperation. 

President Akufo-Addo said Ghana will continue to cooperate with Benin to promote and safe guard the equitable sharing of common water resources between the two countries.

The President of Benin, Patrice Talon said the integration of Africa is long overdue and stressed his readiness to partner President Akufo-Addo and other African leaders to make it a reality. 

President Patrice Talon has since left Ghana for Benin, Cotonou.
