Security Expert lashes out at Minority over ISIS claims

A Security Expert at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping and Training Centre, Dr. Kwesi Aning, has lashed out at the Minority in Parliament for creating fear and panic in the country. 

This follows the Minority's news conference on Ghanaian citizens who have allegedly joined the ISIS group in Libya. 

Dr. Aning said in view of the sensitive nature of the issue, it should have been handled in a better way. 

According to him, it is no news as this was known years ago. 

BACKGROUND

The Minority in parliament is pressing upon government to come clear on allegations by Libyan authorities that some nationals of Ghana are part of ISIS.

The ranking member on the Foreign Affairs committee of Parliament, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa at a news conference said Libya's Attorney Generals came out with a report last month which said up to one hundred Ghanaians were active front line Isis fighters.

He said government's silence on the issue is worrying.

Reacting to the minority's claim, the Chairman of the committee, Frank Annor Dompreh however, says government is already investigating the allegation.

Mr. Annor Dompreh called for circumspection in matters such as these.
