TV License Collection to go from house to house 

The TV License crew will be going from house to house in the collection of the TV license, fee from 31st October, 2017.

This was disclosed by the Director of Finance at the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) Rev. Ebenezer Botwe when the crew interacted with the hierarchy of the Ghana Police Service. He said the house to house collection of the fee is not to intimidate but rather make people pay freely and also educate them that it is a civic responsibility. 

Commenting on some of the challenges faced by the TV license crew, he lamented how “we have been showered with abusive words especially by expatriates” and added that “the TV license fee collection will start from those who have not paid since 2015”.

Also, some Ghanaians claim they are not obliged to pay because they claim they do not watch GTV. The payment of TV license does not apply to only people who watch GTV but rather to all owners of a Television set. 

Agents will be assigned for the fee collection not only in Accra but also across the regions. 

The TV license is a source of funding for GBC. The collection started on 11th August 2015. Various platforms are being used to allow for convenience. These include payment points at the forecourt of GBC, some Post Offices, Banks, mobile money and visits to corporate institutions.

The TV licence is a tax that funds the public broadcaster allowing it to transmit programmes with supplemental funding from radio and television advertisements.
