France, Japan to decide group toppers

Followers of the FIFA U-17 World Cup were served with free goal scoring game in the first group E games at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati.

France hammered debutants New Caledonia 7-1 to set up an epic clash against another free scoring team Japan who also injected a 6-1 defeat to Honduras.

With both teams eyeing a place in the next round, head coach will have to employ a strategy to prevent Keito Nakarama who is leading the top scorers’ chat with three goals.

The Samurai Blue of Japan are chasing their first victory over Les Bleuets of France in the last three meetings following their 5-1 loss in 2001 and 2-1 defeat in 2007 before drawing 1-1 in Mexico four years later.

Though both teams are clear favorites in the group, this game promises to be very interesting and defense of both sides are expected to sweat following their exploits in the opening matches.

Meanwhile, Honduras and New Caledonia tagged as the whipping boys of the group faces each other.

In group B which will be honored today, high flying England will play against Mexico who are on second position with just a point and bottom rocked Chile meets Iraq at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata.
