Ghana targets World Cup opening day victory over Colombia The national U-17 male soccer team, Black Starlets will play against Colombia in the opening day of the 17th edition of the FIFA U-17 world cup in India on Friday. Ghana who have been in the wilderness since 2007 are back to the global soccer festival for the 10th appearance. With the aim of making an instant impact to reclaim their lost glory, coach Paa Kwesi Fabin will have to brush aside Colombia who are making their 6th appearance and yet to win the trophy to have a firm grip of the group. The Los Cafeteros (The Coffee Growers) headed by coach Orlando Restrepo will prove difficult for the Ghanaians after their 4th place berth in the2017 Sudamericano tournament in Chile which qualified them for the world cup. Anything short of victory will be a disappointment for many Ghanaians considering the scintillating performance put up by the team led by captain Eric Ayia, Gabriel Leveh and Emmanuel Toku at the Africa U-17 championship. Ghana had a descent pretournament preparation following their 6-0 win over Guinea and a 4-0 victory over UAE before succumbing to a 1-2 loss to West African neighbors Mali before leaving for India. Out of the tunnel marching onto the pitch, the heart pump but the ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Stars’ are expected to shine in New Delhi.
