Parliament resumes sitting

The third meeting of the first session of the seventh parliament of the fourth Republic has commenced today at 12 noon in Accra after two months on recess.
 
A statement signed by the speaker of Parliament Professor Aaron Mike Ocquaye said this is in Pursuance of standing order 37 of Parliament.
 
During the meeting, the MPs are expected to consider and approve financial transactions and ratify international treaties.

The Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, is also expected to present to the House, the Budget Statement and Economic Policy for the 2018 financial year.
 
Thereafter, the MPs will debate it and pass the appropriate Bill which will give him the authority to withdraw money from the state kitty to support government's programmes.

The House will also consider the Special Prosecutor Bill 2017 and the Zongo Development Fund Bill, 2017. 

President Akufo-Addo's proposal to have August 4 declared as Founders Day and September 21 Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day is also expected to be considered.
