Workshop on financial management for MMDCEs ends

A three-day workshop on Financial Management Laws for the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives from the Southern belt of Ghana has ended in Koforidua.
 
The workshop organised by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development was aimed at introducing them to the law and equip them to be accountable to the public.

It was also to ensure probity and accountability in their duties.

In an interview, a participant Yaw Owusu Addo, who is the MCE for Kwahu West, said it opened the minds of participants on how to manage public funds.

He asked the MMDCEs to be responsible and separate party activities from administration.
 
Mr Owusu Addo who is a former Director of Radio at GBC, implored his colleagues not to allow political party issues to overshadow other areas in the discharge of their duties since they have been appointed to serve the citizenry but not party sympathizers.
 
As public officers, he said, they should be able to control the public purse by using the resources at their disposal wisely to avoid financial malfeasance. 

The workshop brought together more than hundred MMDCEs from the Volta, Eastern, Greater Accra, Central and Western Regions.
