A three--day workshop on the Financial Management Laws for the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives from the Southern belt of Ghana has ended in Koforidua. It brought together more than hundred MMDCEs from the Volta, Eastern, Greater Accra, Central and Western Regions. The workshop organized by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, was aimed at introducing them into the law and equip them to be accountable to the public. It was also to ensure probity and accountability as well as responsibility of their offices.Speaking in an interview after the workshop,a participant,Yaw Owusu ADDO,who is the MCE for Kwahu West, said it opened their minds to know how how to manage public funds but not to use their positions to abuse it.He asked the MMDCEs to be responsible and decipher party activities from administration. Mr Owusu ADDO who was formerly the Director of Radio at GBC,implored his colleagues not to allow political party issues to overshadow other areas in the discharge of their duties since they have been appointed to serve the citizenry but not party sympathizers. As public officers,he said, they should be able to control the public purse by using the resources at their disposal wisely to avoid any financial malfeasance.Mr Owusu ADDO expressed the hope that the knowledge acquired at the workshop will be put into good use for the interest of the entire nation but not individuals.
