Committed Drivers Association displeased with introduction of towing levy The Committed Drivers Association says it is not happy with the towing levy. The Chairman of the Association, Charles Danso, said the members are against government's decision to make the levy compulsory for all vehicle owners. Speaking on GBC’s Current Affairs Programme "Focus", Mr. Danso said backlash from the public on the levy is a signal for government to take a second look at the policy. A Road Safety Consultant, Godfred Akyea Darkwa, said Insurance Companies must take up the responsibility of towing broken down vehicles as it is already incorporated in the insurance policy. An Alternative Dispute Resolution Expert, Ben Arthur, said despite the good intentions of the policy, there are challenges with the implementation process. He said adequate stakeholder consultation should have been done before rolling out the policy. The Communication and Marketing Manager of the Road Safety Management Services Limited, the lead implementing agency, Roland Walker, said enough stakeholder consultation has been done but the public outcry means more education must be carried out. The Parliamentary Select Committee on Roads and Transport last week recommended to government to go ahead with the implementation of the national towing service. Following the recommendation, there has been public outcry calling for the withdrawal of the policy. GBCONLINE
