Hospitality industries collapsing due to numerous taxes - Survey

A sampling survey conducted by the Ghana Tourism Federation GHATOF, shows that many hotels, restaurants and other hospitality industries are dying due to the numerous taxes imposed on them. 

According to the President of GHATOF, Nana Okatakyie Anim, more than 18 different taxes are levied on tourism, especially hotels, which are crippling the growth of the sector.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Radio Ghana in Koforidua, Nana Anim said if the taxes are not reduced, most of the operators in the industry will fold up and employees will lose their jobs compounding the unemployment problems confronting the country.

He appealed to government to cut down cost to make tourism facilities affordable for tourists to patronize to help boost the national economy since it is the fourth income earner.
 
He further appealed for regular supply of power since the "Dumsor" is deterring foreign tourists and dwindling the revenue earned by the operators.
