Anti Galamsey Taskforce Arrives In Eastern Region

Security Task Force to fight against illegal mining popularly known as galamsey has arrived and lodging temporary at the Osino Senior High School in the Fanteakwa District of the region.

The personnel who are 60 in number are made up of the police and military. 

In an in an interview with Radio Ghana's correspondent, the Eastern Regional Commander of the Ghana Police Service, ACP George Mensah said the operation will continue till the galamsey affecting the land, forests and water bodies are halted.

He explained that the Task Force is not to harm people but rather help to protect the natural resources that Ghana is endowed with for the interest of the populace.  

ACP Mensah bemoaned the rate at which the water bodies such as Ankobra, Pra, Offin and Birim Rivers have been polluted,due to galamsey,to deny poor citizens access to good drinking water. 

He therefore advised the public to cooperate with the security personnel while in operation in order to achieve the set goals. 

ACP Mensah also asked the security personnel not to harass the people but exhibit high sense of professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
