Kenya: Commonwealth Observer Group looks forward to peaceful and credible polls Chair of the Commonwealth Observer Group for the Kenya elections Former President John Mahama, has promised that the team will oversee a peaceful and credible electoral process. Addressing a news conference ahead of elections on August 8, former President John Mahama, said from Saturday August 5, observers will be deployed across the country to monitor the result management process. He stated that the Commonwealth Observer Group will function impartially and independently according to standards expressed in the International Declaration of Principles for Election observers. Former President Mahama on behalf of the Commonwealth Secretary General Patricia Scotland and the Observer Group expressed condolences to the family of Chris Msando, the Director in charge of the Elections ICT system. He said the group joins in those calling for a full, rigorous investigation into Mr Msando's murder. The 15 member Observer Group was constituted following an invitation from Kenya's Independent and Electoral Boundaries Commission.
