Work with all to resolve Disputes, Prof Yankah urges UEW Council

The Minister of State in charge of Tertiary Education, Professor Kwasi Yankah,  has called on the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) Council work with all stakeholders to resolve existing challenges affecting the progress of the institution.

I have every confidence that the reconstituted (UEW) Council in exercising its discretion will take the matter out of court for amicable settlement and to fully restore normalcy, he said.

Prof Yankah made the call while addressing the 21st congregation, 2nd session of UEW at Winneba.

He said UEW governing council has among its membership individuals holding highly responsible positions, where alternative dispute resolution is a routine practice, hence the need to resolve existing challenges.

Prof Yankah said government under the leadership of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will not let down University Teachers Association of Ghana, (UTAG) and would work together to reach a consensus on existing concerns.

The Minister said considerable goodwill has been demonstrated in the swift restoration of books and research allowances which were otherwise being phased out, while the bill for national research fund is almost ready to be laid before Parliament.

Prof Yankah reminded the graduates that their new status comes with major responsibilities as they are expected to become role models for their alma mater and the entire society.

The Free Senior High School programme  which has been officially launched by the Minister of Education will make high school education virtually free and accessible to all who are given placements by the Computer School Selection Placement System (CSSPS), after the Basic Education Certificate Examinations, he said.
