Dumega Raymond Okudzeto goes home today

Hundreds of family members and relations have converged at the Hogbe  Park at Anloga in the Keta Municipality to pay their last respects to the late the founder of Volta Foundation, Dumega Raymond Okudzeto.

Yesterday, a State- assisted funeral was held at the forecourt of the State House, in Accra, with the  President Nana Akufo Addo and the Vice President Dr. Bawumia in attendance. The ceremony was also graced by the former Presidents John Mahama and Jerry Rawlings and John Kuffour. Ministers of State and Representative of the Political Parties were also present tom pay their last respect. 

Various tributes acknowledged the great role played by Dumega Okudzeto in different areas to support the nation and people of all walks of life. As a senior statesman Dumega Okudzeto was recognized as someone who has paid his dues with the passion he dis[played for his country and region’s development.

Earlier in the week, Members of Parliament eulogized the late Dumega. In a statement, to pay tribute  the MP for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, described Dumega as a visionary.
"He vigorously pursued the Keta Port Project which he contended would open up the entire Eastern Corridor from Keta to Nkwanta and beyond to the North and Sahel Regions. He estimated that more than 30,000 jobs would be created with the building of the Port, with an additional 100,000 jobs from hotels, rest stops catering services among others".

According to Mr. Samuel Okudzeto, "he(the late Dumega) tirelessly championed this project for many years and continued until his death but it should be heartwarming to note that-barely a month to his passing ,precisely on the 21st of March, 2017, he led a delegation of investors  and Anlo Chiefs to present the final feasibility study report for his proposed Keta New Port Project Development to technical officers of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) at Tema".

Contributing to the statement, The MP for Anlo, Clement Kofi Humando, lauded the maker of the  statement and called the late Dumega a matured Politician who served as a bridge between the NDC and the NPP on Anloland in spite of his strong affiliation to the NPP.

According to Mr. Humado "the people  of Volta Region and the nation at large have lost an asset. He was an instrumentalist, philanthropist and man of wisdom".

On his part, the MP for Effutu, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin was of the view that, it was through the efforts of people like Mr. Okudzeto to have young people like him, Kwame Agbodza  and others from the Volta Region to do politics which landed them in Parliament today.
