Moderate consumption of wine cuts diabetes, colon cancer risk Danish researchers suggest that people who drink three to four times a week are less likely to develop type 2 diabetes than those who never drink. Wine appears to be particularly beneficial, probably as it plays a role in helping to manage blood sugar. Moderate consumption of wine especially red, cuts the risk of colon cancer by 45 percent. Brain function declines at a markedly faster rate in non-drinkers than in moderate drinkers. But experts said this was not a "green light" to drink more than recommended. They warned that consuming alcohol also contributed to a vast number of other serious diseases, including some cancers, heart and liver disease. Source: BBC
