NPA dispatches officers to Tema, Ashaiman to investigate table top sale of contaminated fuel

The National Petroleum Authority, NPA, has dispatched field officers to Tema, Ashaiman and surrounding areas following reports that contaminated fuel is being sold on table tops in those areas. 

Radio Ghana earlier this week broke the news that fuel is being sold on table tops in parts of the municipality. 

The fuel, popularly known as "bele bele" is of inferior quality and costs less. 

Recently BOST came under public criticism after it confirmed that it sold five million litres of contaminated fuel to an unregistered company. 

Many individuals and groups including the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers, COPEC, have alleged that part of the contaminated oil has found its way onto the market and is being sold to unsuspecting consumers, a claim both BOST and the NPA have rejected. 

Following the latest revelation that fuel is being sold on table tops, COPEC has expressed the view that, part could be from the fuel BOST sold. 

NPA Chief Executive, HassanTampouli, told Radio Ghana, the Authority will make a public statement after the field officers have returned with their findings.
