Her whole outlook was an infectious one. It will in no time dispel any moody situation and she confirmed it to the host when she was asked about it. “I’m not bothered about my size and height. I feel so normal, more normal than even those who feel they are better” as she referred to her birth defect of achondroplasia (dwarfism).

In her dark shades in the UNIIQ 95.7 Megahertz studios, the lady was there to speak about featuring in a musical clip but she ended up disclosing more about her personality, the one that has endeared her to many people who had consistently watched the Akan Drama (OBRA) programmes and other local soap operas and comedies.

Her real name, Belinda Naa Odey Oku, will not ring a bell but mention Adwoa Smart and you have hit a very familiar key in showbiz in Ghana. Asked where she comes from, the response was one that generated so much laughter in the studio. “I come from Jamestown and also from Osu but I also come from Ga Mashie, you can combine all. In fact you will see that I come from several other places. You know how we are so interlinked as a people.” She said, as she shifted in her seat and sold a characteristic smile. Kwame Nsaidoo, the host of the Mid-Morning Affair was kept reeling with laughter as Adwoa characteristically kept handling one question after another in a hilarious manner.

Pushed to the wall whether she never gets irritated, she said it happens on rare occasions but very short lived. It is the easy-going life that she is used to. With the funny slant she added to the responses Kwame asked where she attended school. She was out of the blocks quickly with a response – “Accra Boys.” That was enough to set the studio alight.

Adwoa Smart was in the company of King Yaw Labito, a composer and lead singer for the song ABE PE SHOW and 2Hot, a rapper. She is a supporting vocalist for the song. Asked what she did on the song, she said she handled ‘the trouble” on it. She knew she was talking about treble.

Asked what motivates her and keeps her joy alive, she cited so many things but especially the encouragement and appreciation from others. She had been singing for a long time from her church to other places. Her featuring on King Yaw Labito’s ABE PE SHOW is thus not surprising for her. She thinks it is a way of lending support to the cause of women. She says women should be loved and appreciated and not abused.
