Don’t politicise issues affecting mental healthcare – Advocate The Executive Director of Basic Needs Ghana, Peter Yaro, says the major challenge of mental health care in the country is the politicisation of issues affecting it. He said if the country continues to politicise mental health issues, very little will be achieved. Speaking to GBC’s Radio Ghana, he said successive governments have concentrated resources to some key areas to the neglect of mental health. Mr. Yaro appealed to government to map out a long term plan to address the challenges of mental healthcare. His comments follow the warning by the Chief Executive of Mental Health Authority, Dr. Akwasi Osei that the Accra Psychiatric Hospital will be closed down if its financial issues are not addressed immediately.
