Karaga District in Northern Region records high school dropout rates - Study
 
Some communities in the Karaga District in the Northern Region are recording high rates of school dropout.

In some circuits a dropout rate as high as ninety percent are being recorded as pupils transition from primary six to JHS one.
  
Empowerment for Life, an NGO, conducted a survey in the Karaga district and the results show, that female pupils are the most affected due to pregnancy.
   
The Karaga District Co-ordinator of Empowerment for Life, Suweidu Abdulai, revealed this in an interview with Radio Ghana in Tamale. 

The Karaga district was ranked eighteenth out of twenty- six districts in 2014 and 2015 in the Northern Regional ranking on performance in the BECE.
 
According to the Ghana Statistical Service report for 2014, sixty -six percent of the population of the Karaga district has never been to school.
