South Africa's governing ANC backs ICC withdrawal South Africa’s governing African National Congress (ANC) has indicated that it still plans to withdraw the country from the International Criminal Court (ICC). The ICC is due to announce tomorrow whether South Africa broke the law in failing to arrest Sudan’s President Omar al Bashir during a visit to the country in 2015. President Bashir is charged with genocide in connection with the conflict in Darfur. South Africa’s government announced its plan to withdraw from the ICC two years ago. It was part of a broader push by some African governments against an institution that they argued was unfairly targeting the continent and its leaders. SOURCE: BBC NEWS
