VEEP Bawumia Outlines 130 Achievements Of Government To Mark 100 Days Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has outlined One Hundred and three achievements of government to mark 100 days in office. He said although government did not make a hundred day promises, government through its innovative measures has attained a lot in this short period. Vice President Dr Bawumia said the stability of the cedi coupled with the decline in inflation rate show that government is on track in changing the fortunes of the economy. He was speaking at a town hall event organised by the Multimedia Group of Companies in Accra. The forum created the opportunity for the Vice President to interact with the public and also tell the success story of government in its 100 days in office. Vice president Dr Bawumia in his over 30 minutes presentation on government's achievements said in 100 days, government can boast of 103 achievements, creating another mantra, one day, one achievement. He touched on the energy, health, agriculture,education and the private sector among other sectors of the economy. Key among the achievements he mentioned was the stability of the Cedi against other major trading currencies. He said government's stemming the free fall of the cedi and reducing inflation from 15 to 12 percent reaffirms its commitment to creating a conducive environment for businesses to grow. Dr Bawumia also touched on some policy measures outlined in the 2017 budget and policy statement especially the removal of nuisance taxes. He stressed that government wants to move from a tax dependent economy to a production economy. On the agricultural sector , Vice President Dr. Bawumia said the planting for food and jobs initiative by government will propel growth in the sector. He hinted that government is in talks with Cote d'Ivoire on how to stabilize the price of cocoa on the world market. He also touched on the fertilizer subsidy program. Dr Bawumia revealed that government, through the review of some existing power purchasing agreement has saved the country 300 hundred million dollars. He indicated government's decision to move all MMDAs to solar energy to reduce the burden on the national grid Questioned on the issue of security in the country especially with the advent of vigilante groups, Dr Bawumia indicated that all the security agencies have been tasked to provide information on potential hot spots. On tackling the galamsey menace, Dr Bawumia said government through the 5 year multilateral mining integrated project will address the situation in a sustainable manner. Some participants at the forum spoke to GBC's Radio Ghana. First, a former CEO of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, Joyce Aryee. The Dean of the School of Graduate Studies, UPSA, Dr Kwaku Mensah Mawutor also shared his thoughts. In a nutshell, Vice President, Dr Bawumia expressed optimism that the first term of the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo led government will see a massive transformation in the economy. GBC
