Cedi's performance signifies better economic prospects - VEEP Dr. Bawumia The Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia says the rapid appreciation of the cedi and the further drop in inflation from 15.4% to 12.8% are signs of great economic prospects in the future. He said government is committed to developing policies that will make the cedi strong on the international market. The Vice President was speaking at an event to mark President Akufo-Addo's 100 days in office, organized by the Multimedia Group of Companies in Accra. Dr. Bawumia expressed confidence in government's resolve to stop the cedi from depreciating, adding that, the first 100 days in government has already shown signs of good times to come. Vice President Bawumia said government has also introduced a policy to regularise and monitor government contracts and make them electronic to ensure accountability and ease in the signing of contracts for national projects. Touching on energy, the Vice President reiterated the commitment of government to expand the country's energy system to ensure Ghana never returns to the days of "dumsor". He said there is a directive in place to roof all government buildings with solar panels to conserve energy. He noted government has saved the energy sector an excess of 300 million dollars by reviewing the existing power purchasing agreements. On illegal mining, the Vice President said the ban on illegal mining is not to render citizens unemployed. He said government is developing a five-year multilateral integrated project which will integrate the illegal miners into a proper mining consortium over a period of five years. He said with this project the government will properly regulate the activities of the miners to protect water bodies and the environment. GBC
