Kwahu Paragliding Festival Ends With No Casualty Recorded


The three day paragliding festival at the Odweanoma Mountain at Kwahu Atibie ended on Sunday with a call on investors to partner with the Ghana Tourism Authority to expand the take-off point to accommodate at least 10 to 15 pilots at a time. 

The public Relations Manager of GTA, Madam Felicia Aniagyei who made the call said this is because there is a growing interest in the sport which has made it more lucrative and capital intensive.   

The paragliding festival is the main flagship program of the Kwahu Easter celebrations.
 
It usually begins on Good Friday and ends on the resurrection Sunday. 

According to Madam Aniagyei, Six pilots from Japan, Romania and the USA are participating in this year’s event with two other Ghanaians who are solo pilots because they fly alone without a passenger. 

For the first time since the inception of the festival 12 years ago, she announced that GLICO Insurance is providing insurance cover for the pilots, passengers, spectators and all revelers around the paragliding site. 

On the Good Friday 80 people were registered to partake in the sport. 

However, Madam Aniagyei observed that only 19 people were able to fly. 

Twenty-four (24) people flew on Saturday, due to the windy nature of the weather which did not favour flying. 

The GTA was compelled to refund money to 27 people who were eager to participate. 

As at 3 pm on Sunday, close to 20 people had participated in the flight.  

The PRO of the Ghana Police Service, DSP Cephas Arthur who was present at the event spoke to radio Ghana said so far there has not been any casualty recorded at the event. 

He commended the revelers for coming to the event with good intentions but not to fitment trouble.
