'New' teachers to receive April salaries Newly recruited teachers from the colleges of Education are to expect their salaries by the end of this month (April). Also, promotion letters for more than eleven thousand teaching and non-teaching staff who have successfully gone through an interview process will be ready by the end of this month. This was announced by the Director General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Jacob Kor, at a news conference in Accra. Mr Kor however indicated that some applicants were not successful in their application for promotion. He said such persons could re-apply to be considered. Last year, the Ghana Education Service received clearance to recruit more teachers after it was halted due to financial constraints. However some of those recruited have not received their salaries due to some challenges, According to the Director General of the Ghana Education Service, Jacob Kor, such persons including those who were recruited recently are to expect their salaries by the end of this month. He said those who are not paid are to report to their Regional Directors. On the promotion of staff, Mr Kor said the Service has started signing their letter adding that budgetary allocation has been made for all promotion arrears from 2014 to 2016 to be paid. Mr Kor also cautioned persons at the district level who take monies from staff to process their documents to stop the practise as they could be sacked. The GES Director General asked staff to remain calm as management works to resolve other pertinent issues including payment of salaries and arrears. GBC
