13 Delta Force Vigilante Group members fined, pardoned by Court

The thirteen members of the Delta Force who escaped from the Circuit Court in Kumasi last Thursday have been fined a total of Gh¢31,200. 

The thirteen who pleaded guilty to the offence of escaping from lawful custody were fined GH¢2,400 each by the Kumasi Circuit Court (4) when they were arraigned Tuesday morning. 

The court handed them 200 penalty units each which translates to GH¢2,400 each. 

The court said it was lenient with them because they were first time offenders and because they also surrendered themselves to the police and thereby saved the police the time of going to look for them. 

It also said it took into consideration the guilty plea by the thirteen which also saved the court the time of going through an entire trial. 

Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer of the National Zongo Council of Chiefs, Moro Baba Issah says even though the council is concerned about the behaviour of vigilante groups especially the Delta Force it is satisfied with the President's resolve to deal with the situation. 

Speaking to Radio Ghana, Chief Issah said the vigilante groups must be disbanded to enable Ghana to regain its pride as Africa's doyen of democracy.
