Odaw River overflows following Sunday's heavy downpour The Odaw River at the Kwame Nkrumah overpass in Accra overflowed as a result of Sunday's heavy rains, with other parts submerged in water. The road linking the Ring Road West towards Ako Adjei interchange also suffered from the downpour, preventing vehicles from moving for some time. Passengers were compelled to alight from their vehicles and walk through the water, while other vehicles were forced to change their routes to avoid being stranded. The Accra Metropolitan Assembly’s (AMA) and the National Disaster Management Organization ( NADMO) of safe had warned of heavy rains, advising commuters and the general public to take precautions around flood-prone areas in Accra to ensure minimal effects of floods if they occur. The Assembly, in a statement to the media, identified fourteen (14) low lying areas including Lartebiokorshie, Legon, Dansoman prone to flooding and indicated open parks as safe havens for shelter. The statement said, the safe havens could serve as temporary shelter for victims of flood. GBC
