27TH February, 2017 The Daily Graphic adds its voice to the global condemnation of the attacks on Black Africans in Pretoria, South africa saying the issue must not be glossed over by any nation. According to the Graphic, the barbaric attacks evoke bitter memories of the deadly Xenophobic attacks of 2015 which displaced thousands of African immigrants living in that country. The paper said, it is important for South Africa to learn to co-exist peacefully with their brothers and sisters from other parts of the continent. The Graphic is therefore, calling on the South Africa government to immediately stop the attacks before it develops into continental problem. The paper also calls on Africa Union, (AU) to as a matter of urgency, quickly step in to halt the attacks, because already some countries including Nigeria and Zimbabwe are threatening reprisal actions if the attacks continue. The paper also reminded south Africa on the fight against apartheid saying it was the same people that it relied on to gain freedom it so much wanted. The Ghanaian Times says it finds it reassuring that President Akufo-Addo has declared his commitment to fight the menace of galamsey, hinting of a policy that will soon be presented to Parliament for consideration. The Times is of the view that the concern of the president is timely and therefore urges stakeholders to play their part to ensure that the fight against illegal mining succeeds. While, government leads the way to fight the problem of illegal small scale mining, the Times says all must play their role for a successful exercise. GBC
